The aircooled VW engine in my autocross car never comes up to temperature. Six runs at one minute each just aren't enough to put any real heat in the oil.
So I decided to build a bypass plate and remove the oil cooler. The oil simply passes through like it would the oil cooler.
Gets it out of my way, and save 2.2 lbs to boot.
Picture on the left is before, middle is after, right is as installed
These are readily available for about $40, but I decided to make my own for the following reasons:
1. I had the aluminum.
2. I have the mill.
3. The $40 could be spent elsewhere.
4. Not once did I have to hear, read, or say the word "billet".
