The bearing for the steering column in the race car was nothing more than a simple brass bushing with a lot of slop in it.
I set out to build something a little more "precise". After taking measurements of the existing mounting holes, I drew up picture 1.
I chucked up a block of aluminum in the lathe and bored a hole for a sphyrical bearing, picture 2. Note the groove for the spring clip.
